Call for Science Pitches

Overview
The ECVO invites developers, researchers, and clinicians to present their work at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Veterinary Ophthalmology. Unlike traditional scientific sessions, the Science Pitch Session is designed to bridge the gap between technical innovation and clinical application.
In an era where AI tools are developed rapidly, we must learn to critically assess the evidence layer of new technologies to make them safer. These pitches offer a unique window into the process of moving from raw concepts to clinically validated tools.
Presenters are encouraged to speak honestly about their development hurdles, such as data quality, labelling challenges or breed-specific variability, which might be left out in finished publications. Participation does not include financial support or funding from the ECVO.
By exploring these limitations together, we foster a community capable of building and implementing safer, more reliable AI tools that are truly fit for the specialized needs of veterinary ophthalmology.
What we are looking for:
- AI tools or apps ready for clinical testing or use.
- Early-stage developments seeking clinical collaborators or data partnerships.
- Well-defined concepts looking for expert feedback and validation.
Pitch Format
Selected applicants will receive a 12-minute oral presentation slot.
- Focus: Your presentation should not only showcase your tool but also openly discuss limitations,
development hurdles, and specific “next steps” where the audience can help. - Interaction: A short Q&A session will follow to facilitate real-time feedback and collaboration.
Submission Requirements
To apply, candidates must submit two components:
- The Science Pitch Abstract: A 250-word narrative summary.
- The AI Science Pitch Questionnaire: A mandatory form covering technical details, data protection
(GDPR), and funding.
Key Deadlines & Logistics
Application Deadline: 30 October 2026.
- Review Process: The Scientific Committee will select four applicants based on relevance, viability,
and potential for community collaboration. - Attendance: Presenters must attend and present in person in Warsaw on 19 May 2027.
- Keywords: Include 3 to 5 keywords.
Participation in the Science Pitch Session is not reimbursed; however, it provides a dedicated opportunity to showcase your tool or concept, receive expert feedback, and connect with potential collaborators within the veterinary ophthalmology community. Presentations will be recorded and made available exclusively to in person conference participants and registered online attendees.

We welcome early-stage concepts, prototypes, and functional tools alike.
Abstract Instructions
To ensure consistency and focus on clinical impact, your abstract must follow this narrative structure instead of the classical “Purpose/Methods/Results” format:
1. The Clinical Pain (The Need)
Identify the specific ophthalmic problem or “pain point” your project addresses.
2. The Innovation (The AI Solution)
Describe your tool or concept in plain language. Specify the AI approach and the intended users.
3. Evidence & Credibility (Validation)
Summarize your current evidence layer. This may include internal testing, pilot data with specific datasets, or early clinical feedback. Even for early-stage concepts, explain the logic that makes your approach scientifically sound.
4. The Road Ahead & “The Ask” (Collaboration)
State your primary goal for the pitch. What are your current limitations (e.g., data availability, regulatory hurdles, or clinical integration)? Clearly define what you need from the ECVO audience: Are you looking for feedback, beta testers, labeled images?
